Hey all! This is my first go at blogging so please be patient as I figure it all out. Well my trip up until now has been fairly uneventful. I had a nightmarish 6 hours transit in Taipei airport on my way to Seattle. I think I can conclusively say that it is the most confusing airport in the world. After hours of walking around in circles, I decided that it was a human size maze designed with the sole purpose to confuse it's occupants. With this in mind, I found my departure gate and stayed put!
I arrived in Seattle fairly refreshed from the flights. I think the miles of walking in Taipei certainly helped me to sleep. Seattle is a lovely city and the surrounding suburbs are beautiful. The first day I went for a drive that was lined with beautiful snow capped mountains and huge fur trees. The weather was a very mild 20 degrees. Well mild for me, the locals were walking around in shorts and t-shirts.
I was taken to a local bar on Saturday night and ended up being the 'novelty of the night'. I don't think that part of Seattle has too many tourists visit as half the bar ended up at our table after learning I was aussie. This was done in a very 'discrete' manner by one of the guys yelling 'Aussie Aussie Aussie' every 10 or so minutes.
It was a great night but alcohol and jet-lag definitely do not mix, so I spent most of Sunday sleeping. On Monday I was feeling a little more human so I went into Seattle city centre for a little bit of sight-seeing. The weather had turned by this time (it was about 8 degrees and raining) so it hindered my normal tourist adventures. I still made it to the Space Needle and the markets but the onset of frost bite forced me to leave it there.
Dianne (mum's cousin) drove me upto Vancouver today (Wednesday) which brings me to now. The drive from Seattle was only about 2 1/2 hours.
Tomorrow, reality sets in and I have to find a place to live and a job. I know at this point I'm meant to have a plan, and I do! It's to find a place to live and a job! Simple, hey! Well, I hope so! Wish me luck!
I'll let you know how it goes!
Cheers!
